Is the love of the British ‘teashop’ declining in favour of modern coffee bars?
Marimba World Chocolate, specialist chocolatier and producers of indulgent Hot Chocolate Melt drinks for independent cafés, has undertaken informal research into the names of cafes, coffee shops and tea rooms across the UK, identifying some interesting findings.
From almost 15,000 establishments, only 17 have ‘Teashop’ in the name, compared to 1,630 that favour ‘Coffee’ related names. The word ‘Tea’ is used 962 times, with ‘Tearoom’ adorning a further 242 locations, followed by the 17 mentions of ‘Teashop’. This creates a total number of 1,221 outlets referring to tea, compared to the 1,630 relating to coffee.
